I hope this makes sense but I'm like so happy that mc kind of expressed some insecurity/uncertainty in chapter two? I feel like it's very human and I like how they showed that. Like, after their nightmare, after missing for a year, it's normal that they would feel left out or/and a bit insecure. And I liked that they added that because it makes them feel more real, like an actual person you know?

I feel like the line "Not that my friends don't want to see me" kind of betrays a bit of uncertainty? Like, they feel the need to -in a way- reassure the watcher -and themselves- that their friends really do want to see them. Maybe it also hints at their nightmare, about you know. How besties attacked us (still emo about that). And I love it to be honest, because it makes so much sense that they would feel this way.

Bonus:

The choice where mc apologises to Kade for not saving him sooner.

I feel like those pieces of dialogue make them more real, I guess, like they can express more feelings, and like guilt or -potentially- insecurity. And I honestly feel like that makes so much sense for them and for the story, considering what has happened in book one and in the first chapters of book two !

You don't have to agree with me or anything, it's just my perspective and I like that those pieces of dialogue can be read like this and give me more angst basically.
