There was a daisy field behind the barn. The horses hadn’t touched it, must’a not liked daisies too much for lunch. But it was perfect. Perfect for Anne Marie. And it had to be.
He’d asked her to meet him there and he was a mess of nerves before he finally saw her truck pull up. She, of course, greeted Chuck before she spotted him leaning against the water barrel. And he smiled at her before she got to him. “Hey darlin’,” before his hand could reach out for her, it slipped into the water barrel, soaking it and splashing water onto his jeans. “Shit!” and he glanced down at his now soaked side. He was too jittery for his own good.
And as he wiped away what he could, he forced a smile again before leaning in to kiss her cheek. “I’m smooth today.” And he tried to chuckle it off before tilting his head toward the side of the barn. “C’mon lemme show ya somethin’.”
Of course he had nothing to show her. Just wanted to get her to the spot. And it was going to be perfect. He ignored her constant questions about what he was taking her to see before he stopped right in the middle of the field. The sun was setting and it light the field afire in a blaze of yellow light. And maybe it was a little corny, but Bo knew she’d love it. And it didn’t matter, as long as she loved it.
“Bo Duke, what on earth are ya doin’?” She was glancing around and Bo only replied with a smirk as he sunk down on one knee.
Immediately, after she’d realized what on earth he was doing, her jaw dropped, and her blue eyes went wide. “Bo...”
“Anne Marie Chase,” he started. And her eyes immediately filled with tears. “The moment I realized I was gonna marry ya one day, I told Luke. He told me I was crazy and wouldn’t ever make it with ya, but I didn’t wanna listen. I did everythin’ I could to make sure I made ya mine. And once ya were mine, I did everythin’ to make sure I kept ya. I know I’ve been busy, I’ve been workin’ so much. But it’s only because I wanna be the kinda husband who’ll provide for his wife.” And with that, he tugged the small velvet box from his pocket.
“Anne Marie, you are without a doubt, the best thing that’s ever happened to me. You stick by my side no matter what. You’re incredibly supportive and kind, the kinda woman I wanna have next to me the rest of my life. And you should know, if you say yes to me, I will do everything I can to make sure you’re happy... So, sweet girl,” he smiled, glancing up at her and opening the box to reveal the ring he’d scrimped and saved for in the past half year, “Will you marry me?”
