Bomba is one of the most popular Puerto Rican musical genres in the island and its roots lie in our African heritage. It emerged from West African slaves who worked in sugar plantations along the coast of the island in the 17th century, and it became a symbol of resistance and expression.

What sets it apart is that the dancer sets the rhythm for the musicians, not the other way around. The singer usually plays the maraca and the drummer plays on what we call ‘barril de bomba’. Here’s a video about it!!❤️
