Those engagement bait posts where they put a multi-step math equation out of an elementary maths book and someone inevitably answers something like “Say it with me guys: PEMDAS!” but then gives a number that you could only get if you didn’t do PEMDAS/BOMDAS correctly…

#so if you see one of those posts#please know that with#PEMDAS#or#BOMDAS#or whatever way it’s phrased in your country#multiplication and division are the same step#from left to right#and addition and subtraction are the same step#also done from left to right#it’s more like PE(MD)(AS)#and if someone says they did Pemdas but have a different answer#it’s because they did all the multiplication first#and then did the division#and then did all of the additions first before doing the subtractions#and that the person in the comments saying the equation is written wrong is technically correct#because it’s written for people learning elementary mathematics to help them grasp the concept#and those styles of problems basically disappear after middle school level maths
