Romulus was always a fan of the saying 'spare the rod and spoil the child,' but he preferred to manipulate Daken by letting the boy believe that Romulus himself had very little to do, or knowledge of, Cyber's methods. That made Daken far more likely to trust Romulus, as the beatings stopped when Romulus was around.

It was a dirty, underhanded, and evil trick. Romulus didn't care as long as it worked.
