Buck and I are doing the rumba. It’s a very sexual dance.
Bones 8x10 - The Diamond in the Rough
Y'all got the Cave of Wonders talkin' in your head too? Sweet. No need to watch this ep then!
...ok fine. I have spent an awful lot of time with Zooey Deschanel lately, I can't abandon Emily.
You dorks. You can't dance. Go solve crimes.
"The Diamond in the Rough" - Bones
Here’s what I love about Bones: even the not so good episodes can easily surpass anything that any other procedural is doing. In terms of character development, and not getting stuck in a formulaic pattern… they’re willing to take risks! It’s wonderful.
Take “The Diamond in the Rough” as a case in point. Yeah, there have been better episodes of the FOX show – this one was a bit thin, in places, and a bit hurried with the conclusion. It was almost as though everyone was distracted while writing it, plot-wise. But, still, it was far more enjoyable than many other shows I regularly watch. It was consistently funny, even if awkwardly so at times. It revealed things we didn’t know about the characters and developed on things we already knew (Booth taught dance to pay his way through college, Angela is depressed because she’s lost sight of art, Hodgins is an amazing, sweet man, Brennan is becoming fun-loving). Most importantly, it wasn’t afraid to step out of its comfort zone and experiment with new scenarios, placing Brennan and Booth undercover at the auditions for a new dance show. And that finale piece with Booth and Brennan spinning and so in love was simply a joy to watch.
