1. Your preferred work/play/relax-time beverage?
For work/play, I prefer just plain water; hot tea for relax-time.
2. What’s your favorite TV show (or film) to leave on as white noise?
I don't really have one. Usually, I just turn on the TV, scroll through the guide, and flip to whatever channel has something I like or even remotely interested in. The cable channel TNT, for example, usually has a Castle marathon a few days a week. Last year, I found out by accident that the SOAP Network aired Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars reruns on weekends, back to back. Too bad the network shut down this year.
3. If two of your favorite characters from different shows got blended together in some freak transporter accident, who would they be and what would their composite character like?
Hmm. Let's see -- Buffy/Beckett/Scully -- for the purpose of this game of tag, I'll choose the first two because they're from different genres. However, both Buffy and Beckett have had to deal with the loss of their mothers--one to a natural disease* she (Buffy), despite all her powers as the Chosen One, cannot fight, let alone beat, and had to embrace her responsibilities not only as the Slayer (because, you know, with great power and all that...), but as a guardian to her teenage sister as well in the aftermath of her own death and resurrection too but that's a long story if you aren't too familiar with the show (she, herself, was barely 21); the other to a murder shrouded in conspiracy, which propelled her (Beckett) to join the police force to find justice for her mother and others like her.
Who would they be and what would their composite character like? I think this person would be someone with a tremendous sense of responsibility towards the world. A protector. Though not without flaws because she would also have a tendency to self-destruct. It's a matter of learning to balance the weight of the world and living for herself too, not just for others. In spite of her seemingly serious nature, she'd also have an easy appreciation for simple things like spending an afternoon at home with family/friends, watching movies, and sharing food. This character would have an enviable collection of coats and badass leather jackets to boot.
*I say natural disease because the brain tumor didn't have a supernatural/paranormal cause or origin, unlike Scully's cancer in The X Files.
4. For fanfic writers/readers, your favorite type of fanfic.
I used to like angst in fics, but have been reading more lighthearted and fluffy ones recently. My fave would be a balance of drama and comedy. It's just kind of hard to find those, though.
5. The song you’d have blaring from your Corvette/Highly modified Firespray-class attack and patrol ship?
probably Hate On Me by Jill Scott
6. The one character you would recast on your favorite show and why that choice.
I can't think of anyone I'd change because that character's dynamics with others would then be altered too, along with the rest of the show. So, although, someone's performance is more "meh" than "wow", as long as this person is more of a supporting character than a lead, then I'm okay with them. If they are a lead, then I probably wouldn't bother watching the show in the first place. Or at least, I won't continue for very long.
7. The first Tumblr fandom community you got sucked into.
Castle was the reason I came here.
8. Your least favorite Tumblr fan-community.
::prepares an underground bunker for the potential onslaught of the hate parade:: SuperWhoLock. The odd thing is that I actually do like the shows Sherlock and Doctor Who. I've seen maybe a couple of Supernatural episodes but didn't like it that much. Also, at the time, Gilmore Girls had just recently ended. So, to me, Jared Padalecki was still his GG character Dean. Not SPN's Sam, because his brother was Dean...
9. Off the top of your head: a favorite Tumblr post within the past week.
10. State an opinion: Do you think the characters people are drawn to in fiction are a reflection of our actual personalities, or more a reflection of who we’d like to be?
I think we're drawn to characters who reflect the kind of people we'd like to be. At the same time, these characters must have certain personality traits or personal background that we already relate to on some level. That way, they feel more real, as opposed to being a purely aspirational figure. Like a deity who can do no wrong that they become a constant reminder of your perceived flaws. Thus, you see the goal of emulating them as unattainable and futile instead of using their example to work on becoming a better version of yourself. (I hope that makes some sort of sense?)
