Hi! I'm doing part of my english essay on bones in the ocean and I was wondering if you had any favourite quotes from it? While I love the whole story my teacher would hate me if I put it all in there
questions like this still amaze me but let me see what i can find! check em out under the cut
“Technoblade takes off his hat, places it over his heart, and bows.” — Chapter 18
“Anything for the people who gave him everything.” — Chapter 18
“This is no island of gold. It’s an island of bone.” — Chapter 15
“It’s like looking at the sunrise. Warm and beautiful and perfect, in a way he’ll never be able to capture in words.” — Chapter 14
“‘They taught me that the only thing a pirate is good for is the gallows. And I’m startin’ to think they might be right.’” — Chapter 12
“‘No matter what,’ Phil says, and his voice goes soft, ‘—I think I’d want to be free.’” — Chapter 5
“Technoblade isn’t a religious man, but as he stands alone amidst the shouts and screams of his crew, he finds himself following Philza’s earlier advice and praying to whatever god might hear him for a way out of this.” — Chapter 1
“An angel, indeed. An angel of death, though? He’s still not certain.” — Chapter 1
also this entire exchange
“And Phil holds out a hand to shake, his gaze sparkling with something warm.
‘Shall we, Captain?’
Technoblade takes it.
‘After you, Phil,’ he rumbles, and they turn to confront the next challenge—together.” — Chapter 14
and this one!
“Fallen, not to the bullet that had struck at his feet instead of his heart, but by his own recklessness. Doomed by his own foolishness, by his desperate reaches for the sky itself.
Icarus, they’ll call him.
A man who flew too close to the sun.” — Chapter 11
okay last one
‘“…Who would’ve thought?’ Phil laughs suddenly, running a hand through his hair as he tips his head back.
‘What?’
‘A pirate and a former naval captain. Friends.’
Technoblade smiles warmly.
‘…Yeah. Friends.’” — Chapter 5
WAIT THIS ONE TOO
“‘Don’t you miss it?’
Technoblade freezes.
‘Don’t you miss the tides? The wind in your hair? The smell of salt? The rocking of the hull beneath your feet, the rigging against your hands? Don’t you miss the water stretching as far as the eye can see? I know the ocean calls to you. She calls to us all.’
Technoblade turns, slowly.
‘The ocean’s in your blood, Techno. You can’t just walk away from her forever.’” — Chapter 2
I don’t know how to feel. It was such a beautiful ending, the story itself was so...vast. Like the ocean itself, you don’t know where the deep end starts, you don’t know when the currents will pull you in, never truly know if you’ve gone too deep.
You would think, “ah, shallow waters, should be fine to swim in!” you close your eyes and let yourself float aimlessly, and the next moment you’re almost drowning in the saltwater as you struggle to reach out to hold in to something that isn’t there... and then land.
You start sputtering out the water, your lungs clear, you feel like you’re choking on air and gravity hits and your body to exhausted to move. Despite all that you’re just glad to be alive. Even if you’re stranded in the unknown, even if you’re in so much pain you can barely move. Even against all odds, you stare at the clouds and the sky tinted orange, your heart beating in your chest, accepting your fate. You look up to the heavens and say, “Thank you.”
That’s what it felt like, to read bones.
(Bunflower you amazing genius! I CAN’T WAIT TO READ ALL YOUR OTHER WORKS)
