very random but if i had to recommend a few scholars for north bornean studies i'd say look into the works of thomas rhys williams, i h n evans and g n appell; though i have to say that the first two spent their lives among dusuns and the latter was more for the rungus. yes it's very unfortunate that the muruts and the bonggis weren't really studied back in the days but it's better than nothing

well, there are a few stuff on the muruts…? i think? i think my [clears throat] Folder of Books and Papers on North Borneo has a few docs about murut tales and basketwork and whatnot but other than that i don't remember lol

also this is like for the mid 20th century and before btw many modern papers and books have wayy deeper and more vast understandings of indigenous north borneans i just like reading colonial literature on them
