I'm testing out a theory on the order of construction for my back support stays. I'm padstitching the layers together along the channel lines, sliding the bones in, and then stitching the channels on either side of the bones. My hope is that this will be less frustrating than keeping yards and yards of channels at a consistent width, and my evidence is based on both extant garments and experimental archeology in cording methods on the 1890s corset. I had to tear out the boning channels anyway because the side panels are the wrong angle for my waistline. #historicalsewing #historicalcostuming #experimentalarcheology #boningchannels #cordedcorset #stays #mensstays #menscorsetry #padstitching https://www.instagram.com/p/CNqAfawA9bI/?igshid=m3io7twrzpxl

Instagram/DFCorsetry Facebook/DFCorsetry Sasha’s second surgery support underbust. Quickly popped it on to check the fit before she breaks it in (I laced her up a bit crooked, but we were rushing a little. Oh, and ignore that white spot under the top left eyelet, it's masking tape!). Made from a heavy duty, industrial grade, tightlacing quality mesh - perfect for Australian Summers and long term wear. Due to Sasha’s sustained injuries, she requires almost contant lacing. This version has a focus on abdomen support with slightly more waist reduction than the purple. Underbust is also high backed, and flat fronted. Fitted with a 1” lacing gap, and no modesty panel at client’s request. https://twitter.com/Sasha_Maggiolo —————————————— Today, I am honoured to be making a custom stomach support underbust for Brisbane’s own “Million Dollar Woman”. Several years ago, Sasha was travelling to work when she lost control of her motorcycle in the rain, and crashed. Her injuries were so severe, she was given a 1% chance of living. But, thanks to her strength, and the amazing skills of all the doctors and nurses at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital, she recovered. She required 398 units of blood and blood products which is a record for the most blood transfused into one patient at the RBWH, and she wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t available. Please, wherever you are, donate blood. If for some reason you can’t, donate the spare change in your pocket or the cost of your morning coffee instead. Every little bit will help save a human life. She now requires a daily corset to support her abdomen, as the surgeries she endured left her void of stomach muscles. Corseting is usually a choice, but sometimes, it’s a necessity and I’m happy I can assist in making it a more positive experience for this amazing woman.
