Avalon Archaeology is an open air museum near Glastonbury in Somerset, run by the SW Heritage Trust charity.

Over a period of 15 years a dedicated volunteer group have built a series of buildings of different periods. These include the winter dining-room of a Roman villa (with hypocaust, frescoes and mosaic floor), a 9th century AD Saxon longhall and an Iron Age roundhouse, which is being built at the moment.

There is also a waterline replica of the Skudelev 3 Viking trading ship from Roskilde.

I'm testing out a theory on the order of construction for my back support stays. I'm padstitching the layers together along the channel lines, sliding the bones in, and then stitching the channels on either side of the bones. My hope is that this will be less frustrating than keeping yards and yards of channels at a consistent width, and my evidence is based on both extant garments and experimental archeology in cording methods on the 1890s corset. Wallnut ink production! I decide to get sistematic, so I put 3 types of fruits in 3 diferent jars with some water. The dried ones are on the right, the mature brown on the center and the greenish on the left. I havent boiled any yet but you can see the diferences in color or on pigment concentration allready.
