Rune Footsteps IV
Early October 1986 and I was back at University for my second year. I purchased various books on the occult, catalogues and my first pack of tarot cards. By November I began a regular routine of meditations.
In January 1987 I purchased:
Thorsson, Edred (1984) ‘Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic.’ Weiser, Maine, USA. (My copy third printing 1985.)
This book was a milestone. My diary from that time records a stark choice was made to either follow rune magic or to leave the whole subject of the occult alone. I chose to follow rune magic. This decision shaped my life events between 1987 and 1990.
It is a tribute to this author and his publishing house that it remains in print after many years.
Following this I crafted my runes from Sunday 1st March 1987 (first night after the dark of the moon) which were consecrated Thursday 30th April 1987 (Beltane eve.)
A wand was subsequently crafted from Yew in April 1988 and a knife was crafted by Bill Elliot in May 1988. (Both now destroyed and not replaced.)
Mr Thorsson has published numerous works on rune magic and formed the Rune Gild. Though his works have been described as contentious by other writers, he remains an important part of shaping my footsteps in rune magic.
