One word that I hate the most and I pray not to read ever again: Hawthrone

ok so-

the term "don't judge a book by it's cover" is innaccurate, I judge books by their covers all the time example:

this, i hate this, if i saw this at a book shop, i don't care how good it is, i'm not buying that. I just can't deal with that cover

now this, i like this, they are literally both the same book, but this, i'd buy this

23, 42 and 44 for the book asks!

23: my tbr is currently very deep but a few mentions would be Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong, A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross, and The Bodyguard by Katherine Center (which I selected as my July BOTM)

42: without a doubt both These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong. I was literally pacing and throwing my books across the room. An all around incredible reading experience and I can’t wait to read more from her.

44: this is a hard one. For high fantasy probably any of the Song of Ice and Fire series by G.R.R. Martin (I read it when I was 14 and loved it, the political drama was top tier). For more YA/NA, probably the We Hunt The Flame duology by Hafsah Faizal (incredible world building and super well developed characters) and the Dance of Thieves duology by Mary E. Pearson (gorgeous romance and cool world building) for both of these I love having the POV of the male lead catching feelings

Have you ever considered rage quitting a book because you hate the characters names?

I have a confession: I am not a HUGE Kristen Ashley fan, but I have read most of her books. It’s because she knows how to write heroes that are super protective, caring, and unwilling to play games, with the downside that they are SO overdramatic. Every one of her books has the same basic storyline, but she still gets me every time.

Mainstream YA (especially fantasy) is going in circles. Currently, I have trouble finding new and original ideas. Which is why I’m drifting away from it and turning to other genres. (My most recent push away from YA fantasy was The Rose and the Dagger. I had to dnf at 70% because I hated it so much.) I miss my old reading joys in YA. Cause I find that generally the YA style is more fun and entertaining than a lot of adult fiction. But if the content isn’t right... 🤷🏼‍♀️ Take care! Drink water!

This is really interesting to me because I think YA (especially fantasy, actually!) is becoming more diverse in its characters and stories and authors and that’s leading to better stories and characters!

When I was coming into my teens there weren’t a whole lot of mainstream fantasy series (Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent, blah blah blah) and to now have SO many different stories is really awesome.

“Book Boyfriends” are becoming less toxic and more what you actually should look for in a partner and I’m loving that trend. Give me emotionally vulnerable, willing to communicate, nice to people other than protagonist, caring, supportive, non-manipulative partners

YES! One dimensional characters are OUT, and soft, sweet, partners are IN
