How did I come to this book:

I've been a fan of Seth Rogen from Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared to Present Day. When I heard he had a book I can running and picked up at the store.... Due to laziness/procrastination well, we'll just say due to the current times I put it on a shelf - out of mind and out sight - and put off reading it until now.

Review:

Yeah - straight up if you are a fan of Seth Rogen this book will be a layup and the stories will sound familiar but for me this was a good book to ease myself back into reading (its been so long that I can't remember the last book I read).

The stuff Seth lays out is not earth shattering but definitely quirky and laugh out loud at times, and I will say it humanizes him and makes him seem kinda like a chill, normal dude - no real Kieth Richards type shit - just tons of Pot and Shrooms and the occasional Shart.

Book One 2019 - What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited. But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third? What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough? What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play? But what if it is?

Opinion underneath:

This book has been sitting in my tbr pile ever since the day it got released. Lately I've been feeling pretty uninspired with my reading, besides Harry Potter, every other book I've read in the past few weeks has been left half finished. But when I picked up What if it's us, I couldn't seem to put it down.

 Is it the best book I've ever read? No. But it did warm my heart and I found myself rooting for the characters at every turn and I was completely invested in the story. Something that hasn't been the case for a while, so that has to mean something.

I’ve loved the works of Adam and Becky separately and this book is the perfect blend of both of their writing styles. They’ve created a cohesive story full of fluffy romance, a touch of heartbreak and the right amount of awkwardness.

I truly loved Ben and Arthur, they’re layered characters, they’re flawed, and both are equally terrible at dating, but that doesn’t stop them from being easy to love.

I have only a couple issues with the book.

One is that sometimes the language used is very strange and sort of cringe worthy, there are points were it really does sound like my fifty year old dad trying to use the latest slang to sound cool. But it’s a relatively easy critique to over look.

The second is that I hate how short the timeline is and how young the characters. Everything takes place over the course of a summer, which I guess is an important plot point, so I can also get past that. It wasn’t a deal breaker. the other point is that the characters are barely seventeen, which although a little bothersome, I could get past that.

That second critique was, however, somewhat shattered by the epilogue, so I feel some what inclined to take it back. No spoilers though. but I really liked the ending, it made it seem more real to me.

Overall I loved my time reading What If It’s us, and if you’re a fan of Simon Vs, or They both die in the end, then I highly recommend it.

Book count for the year! I bypassed last year by two books, making this the most books I’ve ever read in a year 🎉

New year, new book post. I read 18 books in January, and didn't finish 2. Seeing how I'm not actively bedridden this winter, there'll be far less books, but with my impending graduation, the latter half of the year will probably be more book heavy.

Like yeah it would be a lot easier for me to count them if I do reblog chain but also I am worried I would be clogging people's feed with a big long post if I do that especially considering the amount of books I'm expecting to go through (I'm taking mainly writing/literature classes right now and they all require finishing several novels. I have 4 in one class alone this semester).
