Rereading all systems red and im just realizing we were introduced to the terms of day cycle and the concepts of non corporate planets which then transition to cycles and non corporate political entities to polities in the later books. This is such a clever way to do it cuz you know the concepts and are slowly introduced to the terms. It makes the first book really approachable for first time readers and its really got its uniqueness in the later books without the hard part of learning all the terms at once.
I’m about half done with It’s Not a Cult and omg, it’s addicting. In chapter 11 there’s this analogy about parties which makes me laugh and at the same time makes me think of TAD’s song Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious. What did other people think of the Flaming Football party metaphor? Remembering that he means UK football, so US soccer.
Just finished hwfwm 12 im having shrimp emotions & it’s terminal.
Finished Grist to the Cannon!
Very good book, really gonna enjoy rereading Mile High Engage with the new context. One thing I haven't mentioned is the language gets really fun with the analogies (as Dusk even lampshades) because if I was quoting every bit I'd quote like half the book here but I really enjoyed it.
I do find it interesting that Ulrich is multiple times referred to as a 'tuning fork'. In a book thst, as Rook references thinking about her father's wordplay, rarely misses the opportunity to try new phrases and ideas, the repetition of this particular term got my attention. I think it's only Phineas using it but I'll have to go back and check. I get the feeling this is not a throwaway turn of phrase. 👀
Currently almost done with Becky's book in audiobook form and oh my God?
Her writing on how she and Seth got together is the cutest shit ever? Her narration adds to it, you can hear her grinning ear to ear as she reads. I highly recommend this book. It's on Spotify if you have premium and I'm absolutely picking up a physical copy if I see it in my local bookstores.
Despite being in A&E twice, having a day destroyed by a migraine and general ongoing day-job stress, this week has had some very exciting Hartswood-related news about which all I can say is 👀👀👀
