The Book Cycle

Sometimes I forget how much books are, then I spend $100, which I don’t have on books. I read them all in a week, then I look around my room and I decide I don’t have enough books, even though all of my book shelf are falling apart. Then, I run out of money. As soon as I get some, I just can’t help myself and the whole thing starts over again.

a note on #bookcycle

my love & darling Bookcycle will not be sold or neglected. test-riding brand new bikes has only given me more of an appreciation of just how nice that old steel frame rolls. she'll hang out around the new neighborhood (Ravenswood/Lincoln Square) and probably do the festival/farmer's market thing until winter.

Thought up by Jared Mills, a librarian, the programme will see 11 librarians, all rather fit, spending their summer riding bicycles with custom-made trailers attached that carry 500lb (227kg) of books, a large sign and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Each will turn up to various festivals and parades and also parks. They let the community know where they are going to be through website, Facebook and Twitter postings. The purpose is to start book talks, hold story time for children, issue library cards and simply be available as a place to check out some of the “hottest” books of the season. Hello. My name is Indie. I am a middle school student and I love the bookcycle. I live in Northeastern Wisconsin and was wondering if i could start the cycle. Also it would be really cool. My city has these little kind of bird houses that you put on your lawn, fill with books, and people can just take it and return it. But please... CAN I? Also, what library do you work in is it in Chicago?

And those birdhouses you see are probably the wonderful Little Free Libraries which in part inspired my Bookcycle. Nice to know they’re around your town. I hear they’re headed to Milwaukee soon as well.

I work as a business librarian in a bank in Chicago. Very different from working at a desk near the stacks, but it’s library work!
