Book Appraisal: Lola and the Boy Next Door

Stephanie Perkins may have just won over my heart with these two books I've read from the series (Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door).

I must admit I have a weak spot for books like these. 

If you loved Anna and the French Kiss you will love this book as well. It portraits Lola, an unusual character full of surprises and personality. Her love of dress-up made me wish I was corky enough to be able to pull off everything she wore; ranging from Marie Antoinette to outrageous boots.

This book made me cry and laugh and it also made me wish I was a wonderful ice figure skater or that I could sew something more than a fallen button or a ripped fabric.

Book Appraisal: Insignia

What attracted me in the first place was that this book was labeled as an Ender’s Game “look alike” of sorts. So I thought it would probably be to my liking; I must say, I wasn’t disappointed. If you look further into the words and the storyline you can find many valuable life-lessons and realities that take place in our lives; they’re lived through Tom and the difficult situations he’s had to go though. This book will take you through a wide range of emotions that you’ll continue feeling even after you’ve closed it; if you’re used to immersing yourself deeply into a story and not being able to keep it out of mind when you’re not reading, I recommend you read this when you’re free of any commitments whatsoever.

I’d recommend this book to anyone that loves coherent sci-fi and a thrilling read.

Book Praise: Brave New World

I’d never read anything quite like this book. It was a refreshing change from reading the usual.

Aldous Huxley’s imagination is boundless and the fact that he could create such a structured world and it all came from his own head amazes me. It’s also impressing how this book was written in 1932; to have such a clear vision of the future and the creation of biotechnology in that year is very unusual, at least to me. Aldous shares visions of the future with people that are almost a century away from his time; as we evidently haven’t reached the level of advancement that the society in the book presents.

This book is timeless and now I understand clearly why it is thought of as a classic; its meaning will trascend and will still remain relevant even to societies far away from the actual ones.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to have a breath of fresh air and change from the usual book.

Book comment: Heist Society

I enjoyed reading this book and found myself enthralled by its plot. I must admit I wasn’t expecting it to be as entertaining and well written at the same time, it was a pleasant surprise for it to be both. It was hard t keep track of some details due to the fact that they were not explained; meaning Kat’s life as a thief before she entered Colgan. Still; this gave me a longing to get to know the characters more and I must admit I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel.

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a mix of action, love and an interesting story line.

Book Appraisal The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is full of vivid descriptions and characters full of life. Fitzgerald uses words that help the reader picture and understand a character’s personality or their setting. There is beauty in this book that most books these days don’t manage to capture and contain. The Great Gatsby is a classic and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to read books that will remain in their heads and hearts even after they’ve finished reading.

Book Praise: Severed Heads and Broken Hearts

As the cover states, this book does have an air of John Green’s writing style; still, it’s completely different; If we’re comparing both authors based on this book and one of John Green’s, Robyn Schneider stuck closely to how things actually happen in real life and how people react to certain situations.

After reading this book you’ll wish you had such an unusual group of friends and you’ll wish you had midnight parties in hotel rooms after state debate competitions; you’ll understand how hard it is to hide a baguette in a suitcase and you’ll wish you had enough taste to be able to tell when a champagne bottle is cheap or not. You’ll wish you had secret movie sightings and a dog with a higher IQ than many football players.
