Book Praise 1: The Peer and the Puppet

Ever thought about why hero and heroine (usually step siblings) have to share a bathroom when they live in a mansion? I have and it never made sense in practicality perspective. Story wise it always had a logical sense, so that they are forced to communicated and possible run ins. I am just at the beginning of the Peer and the Puppet and let’s just say that I really appreciated when the father (can’t remember his name) tried to justify why they are sharing a bathroom. Not the best justification, but it made me happy that the author addressed the issue of yes we live in a mansion that has 9 bathrooms (yes, I remember the amount of bathrooms, but I can’t be bothered to remember the name of the father), but you two are forced to share a bathroom and that they are self-aware of the trope. For once something in a book to make me happy.

Just started reading The Decameron for a class (I love books that start with "the" btw) and shiiiiiit. The debauchery is breathtaking on nothing more than concept; the sex scenes aren't even descriptive? So why? Am I so in love with these rehashed grimm fairy tales 😍

I really hate when a book’s front page matter has a list of reviews and it only includes one word or phrases to describe it: 

“Chilling” “Ingenious” “Enthralling” “Fascinating” “Dazzling” “Successfully creepy” “Original and beautiful, maddening and magnificent”

I mean…those are all great words and pairings, but why is the book these things?!

My favourite compliment I’ve ever received for my writing was the guy who told me that Child of the Hive was both an upstairs and a downstairs book. He was an older guy with limited mobility. In particular, he struggled on the stairs, so he would only go up or downstairs in his house a couple of times a day. That meant when he wanted to read, he always had two books ongoing - one upstairs for reading when going to bed, etc. and one downstairs for reading during the day. He told me that he was so intrigued by the plot that he had to take my book up and downstairs with him so he could keep reading it.

My second favourite is the fact that the security guard in my mum’s office told her she’s not allowed to retire because he won’t be able to get his copies of my books signed without her there to act as go-between.

Perfect is such a good book! Read it if you guys can handle deep/dark topics I was so close to crying in my math class lol the tears were about to pour out! I like how Ellen the book with the same last words as the first book. And I'm happy that Cara is taking control of her life because she seems happier now regardless of the shit that went down.
