#qotd simple question, what’s your fav holiday and why? 🎄 🎃 🦃 🐣 💘 🇲🇽 🇮🇪 So, I’m a really big fan of smaller holidays, especially those based on cultures different than my own. In my adult years, I’ve gotten very introspective about these days. What’s the purpose? What are we celebrating? And more and more, how can we appreciate without appropriating someone’s heritage??? So today I wanted to feature the books with Mexican writers that have influenced and impacted me the most. . . During college I took a class that featured this book, Chicana Feminist Thought, and I can still remember how I felt reading it. I mean, I kept it from college which I graduated from in 2007, so that alone should tell you how much it meant to me. It introduced me to voices like Marta Cortera, Ana Castillo, and Cynthia Orozco. As for Love in the Time of Cholera, it’s just a fantastic book! . . . My point is simply, that while we all have fun with #cincodemayo, let’s take at least a quick moment to remember the real people and real history behind the culture we are celebrating. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstaengage #mexico #chicana #feminism #feminist #voices #history #puebla #culture #mexicana #méxico #holiday #celebrate #appreciation #appropriation #remember #bemindful #instabook #havefun (at Columbus, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_0N0JbgQP1/?igshid=p6ktew1573n7
