27, 38, 44 👀📖
27. What was the first book you remember reading as a kid?
A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. It holds up!
38. How many books have you read this year?
16 so far!
44. The book(s) whose stories have become part of your very makeup.
This is so tough.
Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden was the first queer book I ever read. I stayed up all night reading it, I literally couldn’t stop.
Six Times We Almost Kissed by Tess Sharpe hit something deep inside me, and I’ve reread it more times than any other book ever. It’s one of the first books I’ll recommend and I never shut up about it.
I’m sure there are more I’m not thinking of. Definitely a few chapter books about found family whose names I can’t remember.
6 & 47 for the bookworm ask, please?
6. Favourite romance novel(s)
Roleplaying by Cathy Yardley (contemporary romance about two people in their 40s who meet via MMORPG, demisexual/bi male lead)
Beach Read by Emily Henry (romance novellist and litfic novellist live near each other for the summer and take each other on 'research' dates)
Swordheart by T Kingfisher (woman falls in love with sentient sword while trying to find a family lawyer)
Half A Soul by Olivia Atwater ('fey-cursed' woman teams up with the Royal Sorcier to try and cure the strange disposition that arises from her curse)
47. What are the last three books you read?
The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements (4*)
Funny Story by Emily Henry (4.75*)
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske (3*)
Bookworm ask!
3 & 13! <3
3: Favourite Modern Book
Hmmm, that is a good question - hard to answer since I mainly read fantasy which typically comes in series as opposed to one individual book, y’know, so. Hm.
My initial temptation is to say ‘The Blade Itself’ by Joe Abercrombie, first book in The First Law series. But to call it my favourite seems like a misnomer, bc there are other books later on in that same series that I think are better - but I would certainly call The First Law my favourite modern series
Similarly, tempted to shout out ‘The Lies Of Locke Lamora’ by Scott Lynch; read that last year and loved it, had an absolute blast with that one
Very hard to pick just one singular favourite lmao, but I suppose those two are definitely in the top-tiers of my favourite modern books
(assuming we allow 2006 to still fall into the definition of modern lmao)
13. how do you arrange your bookshelves
Oof, I don’t 😂 you caught me. Ok no, so. The thing is I have more books than I have a available shelf space, so here’s the actual answer
I have a ‘display shelf’ which is for like, all time favourites, that’s the shelf I have behind me in my YT vids, containing LOTR, The First Law, Gentleman Bastards, Farseer etc. Books that have earned ‘pride of place’ to go on that shelf. I keep each series together, but the actual arrangement is more whatever is most aesthetically pleasing/logistically reasonable to fill the shelf space:
^This is the shelf I’m actually quite proud of
Also I’ve tried to put certain series with similar vibes next to each other - hence First Law being next to ‘The Band’ and Jurassic Park being paired with the Collin’s Gem book of Dinosaurs (coincidentally that’s also the only book I had that would fit in the middle of that shelf like that)
My other two shelves have just become an incoherent mess at this point, despite my efforts to prevent that - I still keep each series together, A Song Of Ice And Fire has its own shelf since it’s long enough to do see, I keep my graphic novel* collection on its own separate shelf, and anything that’s on my TBR I have in stacked towers just kinda dotted around the place. But it’s become mixed with DVDs, CDs, Board Games, various trinkets and notebooks, miscellaneous mess all cluttering up the joint 😂
*the comics I actually do have organised, they go Marvel A-Z, DC A-Z, Valiant A-Z, other/independent
Thanks for the ask!! <3
For the Bookworm asks: 1, 2, and 3 🥰
1. What are you reading right now, and what do you think of it?
I'm currently reading Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall. I'm only on chapter 3 so far, but it's already pretty delightful. Hall is a brilliantly funny writer. Overall I'm hoping for something like a queer Bridgerton, with modern sensibilities woven into a period romance, poking at stereotypes while also embracing them. I'm also a big fan of Nicholas Boulton's narration. The dude sells it.
2. Favourite classic book?
I think it's Mansfield Park. At least it is at the moment.
3. Favourite modern book?
Night Watch by Terry Pratchett.
15 and 24 please, let's go 📚✨
15. Do you prefer: chapter titles or not Table of contents or not (i mean i don't read them either way, so) Prologues and/or epilogues or not
24. Favorite book title? this is such a hard question, there have been some really cool titles coming out recently, here are some that come to mind: the dangers of smoking in bed, things have gotten worse since we last spoke, nine moons in a river of stars, how to make friends with the dark, sharp objects, horrorstör, strange the dreamer, tie your shoes kid, this is how you lose the time war, i mean there are so many i can't possibly choose a fave yk
send me a bookworm ask? <3
Bookworm Asks 8 and 25?
8. What was your favorite book so far this year?
The Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn! I started reading them after I watched the show on Netflix, and they were really fun reads. I really needed something light. I enjoyed reading about each different sibling and seeing all the characters come back in through all of the books. I recommend them if you are a fan of the show!
25. What books do you read over and over?
So many! I used to hate rereading books when I was younger, but as I’ve gotten older I find myself rereading books all the time!
The Harry Potter series- I have reread this series so many times! It’s been a while since I’ve done a reread, with the exception of reading the first book to my class.
The Percy Jackson series- I LOVE anything by Rick Riordan. He is such a brilliant writer, but Percy Jackson is my favorite!
Pride and Prejudice- My all time favorite book! My paperback copy that I got in elementary school is so well loved the cover is falling off!
Georgette Heyer novels- I adore her stories. You can often guess who is going to end up together but she writes some wonderful twists and turns on the way there.
The Mr. Darcy’s Daughters series by Elizabeth Aston- If you like Pride and Prejudice, you have to read these books! I’ve read a lot of people’s attempts at “sequels” of Pride and Prejudice, and this by far is the most well done.
I could keep listing books forever, so I’m going to stop here.
Thanks!!
