So this is my first #nationalautismday with a diagnosis. It’s amazing what some validation can do for your confidence. I feel like I can be myself without having to make excuses, I’m more comfortable with asking for help and support now, I can say “I’m autistic” without feeling like an imposter. Services and awareness for women with autism has improved in the UK but we still have a hell of a long way to go. I’d been trying to get answers since I was 12 and so many times I’ve heard “girls can’t have autism” & “you don’t look autistic”. We have to do better, for all those little girls that are kicked to the curb and left thinking they’re alone and broken somehow. Raising awareness and spreading knowledge is so important for this community and I can hole heartedly say that I am proud to be autistic. Now go enjoy today and learn a bit more about autism in girls🙌🏻 (Also I made that apron and I’m very proud🍁)
