peekaboo /// lil bit drunk and luvin myself🖤
Okay... confession post.
I might seem to always have it all together even when things fall apart but no, there're times when I have a good cry. And nothing makes me bawl like a baby like grandma's deteriorating health. I do get emotional, I do get vulnerable and I do feel incredibly sad. At the same time, it isn't healthy to dwell on those feelings or mope around for too long, so after awhile, I'll start pulling myself together.
I'm incredibly fortunate to have wonderful people who offer a listening ear. Talking about stuff helps so much and my friends are gems! Rather than moan or get anxious about what we don't have, it's more positive to feel gratitude for what we DO have. And if we look around, many of us actually have plenty. Abundant love, abundant support, abundant care. Our happiness, contentment and internal satisfaction (which influence mental health) largely depend on our mindsets.
This is how I avoid slipping into depression when things get rough. Little conscious actions on our part can work wonders, for instance, inhaling the rich aroma of our morning coffee and reminding ourselves that we're fortunate to start the day with such a delicious beverage.
Sometimes I think mental health is more about our emotional wellbeing. We feel anxiety, we don't think anxiety, yah? Affirmations are so important, not just for our bodies, but for our happiness. Reminding ourselves from time to time of how fortunate we truly are, keeps us upbeat even when things go wrong.
As more and more people open up about mental health issues, I hope this helps somebody. Have a great weekend, guys!
