phone booth: my character calls your character
The sound of glasses clinking paired well with the bright lights in the background. Soft music played in the background, and the atmosphere was buzzing with happiness. Min had been invited to dinner by one of his old bandmates, a guy that spent most of his time making brownies with interesting ingredients back in the day, but now he stood with his hair freshly cut, and a wide grin spread across his lips as he beamed at all the people surrounding him. He looked happy. It had been a few years since Min had started working at Sunhwa, and to the surprise of everyone he knew at that party, he was still working there. “I’m thankful for many things,” his friend called out, over the murmurs of individual conversations, “I’m mostly thankful for my beautiful husband-to-be.” This met with a chorus of ‘aw’s’ before the speaker continued, his groom blushing at his side. “I’m also thankful that I am alive and well to witness Kang Min holding down a job, and not just any job, but a job teaching kids for five years. It’s truly a miracle.” The guests eyed Min knowingly, laughs erupting from the ones that knew Min well enough to know that the spoken words were truly something that statistically was extremely rare. Min grinned along, the buzz of joy he was feeling mellowing him out. The night went on and more laughs were shared, Min contently enjoying being with the people at the party. He felt at home here, in Korea, finally. His phone buzzed in his pocket, interrupting his conversation with the sister of the other groom. He excused himself, glass of champagne in hand, to answer it. Stepping to an empty corner of the rooftop area, he ending up answering the call despite not recognizing the number. “어디야?” the voice called. She sounded so small, despite being older now. It had been a while since they had last seen each other, even Paris now, being a somewhat distant memory. She didn’t have to tell him where she was, he knew she was probably standing at his door, waiting for him. “Wait there,” he said, “I’m coming, 보라야.”
