The Raid of the Redeswire: The Last Great Battle Between England and Scotland
On July 7, 1575, the Raid of the Redeswire took place in the turbulent borderlands between England and Scotland. Fought near the Cheviot Hills, the clash began as a traditional border meeting between officials meant to settle disputes, but tensions quickly erupted into a full-scale battle between English and Scottish forces.
The Scots, led by Walter Scott of Buccleuch, initially found themselves outnumbered but rallied and defeated the English troops. The battle became the final major armed confrontation between the two kingdoms before the crowns were united under James VI of Scotland in 1603.
