#365Insects 89: #Boreothrinax maculipennis (Macquart, 1846) Sometimes, a single pin can tell an entire story. While the fly appears to be riding its loyal scarab steed, in fact this may be the first and only known association of this parasitoid and its prey. The female fly was observed harassing and attempting to oviposit into this #Diplotaxis lengii (itself attracted to a black light set up in College Station, Texas) by Dr. Mathias Buck (a friend and amazing entomologist now at @royal_alberta_museum), who carefully collected and perfectly prepared the specimens before identifying and depositing them in the @uofguelph Insect Collection when he returned home to ensure this important natural history record wouldn't be lost. While their brief lives were fated to intertwine, together in death they'll inform biologists for decades to come. (at University of Guelph)
