And why wouldn’t they be? Italian architecture is as stunning as it is impressive.⁣ ⁣ Every year, millions of tourists flock to Venice, Florence, Rome and Milan to catch a glimpse of the ingenuity. While there are hundreds to see, it's worth spending venturing away from these year-round popular destinations to have a more authentic experience in Italy.⁣ ⁣ I doubt many tourists – or Italians for that matter – have heard of Borgo Ticino, for example. It's a quaint and colourful fishing village made up of a row of pastel-coloured houses lining along the River Ticino that's a bit out of the way from the red brick built city Pavia. Go for a nice gentle walk along the river and see the city from a unique perspective!⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Take a train from Milan, Genova, Vercelli or Alessandria to Pavia. You can either take an urban bus to Borgo Ticino or get there on foot in 20 or so minutes. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 27mm | 1/1250s | f/5 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 13/06/2020.⁣ ⁣ Known by the people of Pavia simply as 'il Borgo' ('the Village'), Borgo Ticino is a historic fishing village on the other side of the River Ticino.⁣ ⁣ Just a short walk from Pavia's historic centre, Borgo Ticino is characterised by its pastel-coloured row of houses reflecting dimly, but beautifully, on the river perpendicular to the 'Ponte Coperto' ('Covered Bridge'), a stone and brick arch bridge that has become the symbol of Pavia.⁣ ⁣ Delve further into the quaint riverside village on 'Via dei Mille' and you'll eventually come to 'la Parrocchia Santa Maria in Betlem' ('the Parish church of Saint Mary in Bethlehem') that was founded towards the end of the 12th century on a pre-existing Carolingian church. It retains the original characteristics of the Pavese Romanesque, especially on the façade, and is the most important monument in the village.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ You can catch a train from Milano Centrale, Genova or Alessandria for Pavia.
