Shane/Ilya pairing is soooo interesting for a sucker for historic au fanfic/ History nerd. As many european esp russians/ slavic fans are pointing out, Shane also looks russian or kazakh ,kirgyz. You can practically rewrite War and Peace or Potop with them. Or some sons of bojars in the times of Ivan Grosny shit or Red Army Ilya from Piter in godforsaken Siberia meeting a native. Or some Erast Fandorin (russian japanese war). Or military au in the 1980s in the grave of empires. Also russian priest Ilya in the late days of canadian residential schools (who had to leave the ussr for religious reasons, orthodox priests are allowed to marry btw) meeting an older relative of his pupils been one of the first things on my mind. Have fun!!!!
