A good news guy
Middle Life (dir. Pavan Moondi) x VIFF 2025.
From members of the bands July Talk (Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis) and Born Ruffians (Luke Lalonde) comes a strange but quirky Toronto riff on a traditional romantic comedy—oddly reminiscent of They Came Together without the overt parody elements, more than anything else. When two strangers meet after a car accident and unexpectedly run into each other later, they form a weird friendship based on their mutual but sort of opposite connection. Inevitably, their personality differences contrast and the fun stops. These unexpected turns toy with our expectations of formulaic comedies before embarking on a compelling buddy pairing.
Screened at the 2025 Vancouver International Film Festival as part of the Panorama series.

Thanks for the ask! These come from the writing playlist I've been putting together as I work on Season 2~
9) Favourite lyrics of your #1 song
From "Rococo", by Arcade Fire:
They build it up just to burn it back down They build it up just to burn it back down The wind is blowing all the ashes around Oh my dear god what is that horrible song they're singing Rococo, rococo, rococo, rococo
17) Saddest song
TIGHT Competition for this one, but I'll go with "Styrofoam Plates" by Death Cab for Cutie, because I'm a sucker for bittersweet:
You're a disgrace to the concept of family The priest won't divulge that fact in his homily And I'll stand up and scream if the mourning remain quiet You can deck out a lie in a suit, but I won't buy it I won't join in the procession that's speaking their piece Using five-dollar words while praising his integrity And just 'cause he's gone, it doesn't change the fact He was a bastard in life, thus a bastard in death, yeah
26) Favourite bassline
Oh baby, the breakdown in "Don't Live Up" by Born Ruffians when the bass does a whole octave slide? SICK.
