Torn and Mended back (Boromir x reader)
requested by: anon
Request: Hi there! I’d like to request 4th prompt (phrase being said by the reader?) x Boromir?
Prompt: 4. “You don’t know anything about me”
Warnings: arguing, fighting, feeling under valued and being belittled
A/n: Glad to have another Boromir request! This probably wasn't the way you were thinking it would go but it's lengthy cause I didn't want it to end in a sour mood

You and the rest of Fellowship had left Rivendell and were now traveling south of the Misty mountains. You were walking towards the end of the group with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. The four of you were talking, nothing serious just some small light-hearted talk; basically getting to know one another better. You had met Aragorn before, as Strider, so you knew him, this was the first time however you had met Legolas though you had heard of him, and you didn't know Gimli at all before this.
As the four of you talked Boromir looked back at all of you. He felt slightly excluded, not that he hadn’t conversed with the hobbits some already, but this seemed to damper his spirits some as all of you talked smiling or laughing. His eyes moved to you, it seemed you were the one keeping things going.
He didn’t know what to make of you. You weren’t an elf nor dwarf, you weren’t a ranger either; so where did you fit in with any of this? Why had you been at Rivendell in the first place? He felt suspicious about you and your purpose for joining.
You had noticed his eyes on you, the glaring that seemed to say ‘what's your purpose?’, as if you had to show you were here. You felt angry at the feeling of someone who didn’t know casting some kind of judgement onto you. You definitely thought to confront him about it.
Joining to be apart of the Fellowship was honestly a spur of the moment decision for you, almost like it had everyone else, but when you saw the look on the Frodo’s face, you could tell he very much didn’t want this burden. However faced with a council of mixed races screaming at one another he felt it was best and you felt that your actions along with the others shouldn’t have made him decide to do what he didn’t have to. So you wanted to help as you felt it was your responsibility to, after all this affected you just as it did everyone else.
As the Fellowship continued on behind Gandalf, trying to cover as much ground as possible, you and Gimli were still continuing to have a conversation. It was mostly Gimli, telling stories of his home and of his kin; but you didn’t mind though as it kept you preoccupied.
Eventually Gandalf found a good place to stop that had spots for hiding in case of enemy spies. Everyone took this time to do different things. You helped Sam cook while some sat to rest, Boromir used this time to teach Merry and Pippin swordplay. As you helped Sam, you would occasionally look over to Boromir and the two hobbits. You couldn’t believe this was the same man who was staring at you in suspicion earlier. You were still thinking about confronting him about it, you had to know why. What made him suspicious of you?
After eating and everyone started to settle down for some sleep, you walked off a little ways from the camp to be alone for a few minutes. You could still see the camp within your view so you knew they could spot you in case they need you. You just needed time for yourself, away to help you settle down so you could sleep. However the moment was faint as Boromir came up beside you and you knew the conversation that was possibly coming and this was the time to confront him.
“May I join you?” He asked.
“I feel even if I said ‘no’, you still would. So go ahead.” You answered and he gave a knowing chuckle as he sat down beside you. “So are you suspicious about my intentions of joining or is there some other reason you are suspicious of me?” You blankly asked wanting to know.
“I wonder what purpose you believe you have in this. The others are representatives of their kind doing a part to help or guidance for the little ones, so I don’t see why you are here.” He boldly stated.
You could feel the anger running through you right now at how he could just say that as if the situation wasn’t something that needed worry everyone in Middle-earth. It felt as though he was questioning your value to the Fellowship already.
“Don’t belittle me just because you don’t see what importance I am to this journey! I was there for a reason, just as you and everyone else that was there. And if I can help Frodo in anyway, I will.” You lashed out looking at him.
“I wasn’t trying to belittle you.” He scoffed in disbelief of how this was going. “I merely wondered what-“
“You don’t know anything about me.” You snapped cutting him off. “So don’t go wondering why I’m here or why I was in Rivendell. It’s not your business!” You yelled out before storming off.
Boromir let out a huff and turned to the direction of the camp to see eyes on him, particularly Aragorn’s. He knew the whole camp must of hear at least some of that, but he tried to brush it off. He made his way to the camp and sat on the spot he had chose for the night. Aragorn’s eye once again on him.
“You would do well to mend this, my friend. You don’t want to be on (Y/n)’s bad side.” Aragorn warned him before rolled over to sleep.
Boromir was suspicious of you, he admitted it. He wanted to know your reasoning for joining and why you were in Rivendell for. With the nine of them he honestly didn’t see why there needed to be a tenth member whether it was you or someone else, it wasn’t something he meant to anger you by; but now he had. And with Aragorn’s comment just now, he wondered even more about who you were and how the ranger knew you.
You had stormed further away from the camp; finding a new place to sit. You took a breath as you leaned your head against the stone behind you. It felt as though once again you were thought to be unneeded. Though he had no right to question why you joined or why you were in Rivendell to begin with. You had your reasons and those who knew you understood; that’s all that mattered.
As morning came, you rejoined the rest of the fellowship, who were ready to continue on. There was more silence this time as Gandalf led everyone to the Redhorn Pass. It felt like a torn had started within the Fellowship and everyone could tell. As the cold and snow became a problem, however the decision was made to turn back and go through the Mines of Moria.
During this time you walked at a distance from Boromir, he hadn’t had a chance to get a word in. He wanted to apologize and truly get to know you, but you kept that from happening.
After all of you reached the door of Moria, Gandalf needed time to figure out the words and so everyone took the chance to rest and Sam released Bill the pony.
You sat on a rock near the waters edge, an uneasy feeling about the water weighted on your mind.
“(Y/n).” You looked toward the direction of the voice, it was Boromir coming up beside you. “May I speak to you?” He asked as he sat on the rock next to you.
You sighed, “and what would you like to discuss this time?” You questioned looking back to the water.
“An apology. I wanted to earlier than this but the chance hadn’t come-about.” He told you. “I didn’t mean to upset you like I had. I simply wondered why a tenth member was needed, I found you suspicious for it and how I went about it…” He paused trying to find the correct words to explain his thinking. “I shouldn’t have directed it at you in the way I did. I also apologize for trying to pry about your reason for being in Rivendell.” He apologized.
You looked back his way, you could hear the sincerity in his voice and his face showing a glimpse of guilt. You knew he meant it.
“Thank you for the apology.” You replied. “I must apologize too.” You admitted.
“What for?” He questioned.
“I could tell you seemed suspicious of me for some reason and it upset me. So I was already mad at you before you spoke. I already had it in my mind of what you thought of me. Had I had a cool head maybe I could have approached the situation differently and for that I apologize.” You confessed and apologized before explaining more. “I have been treated like I was unneeded before and to me it seemed you had already determined I was unneeded for this journey before I could show what I was capable of.” You told him. “I’ve been belittled by people who knew me and who didn’t know me. Told that I bring no value to the table and I felt that was the point you were going to get to about being with the Fellowship.” You finished explaining as you faced back to the water, feeling a little better.
Boromir felt horrible, you had been treated that way and he had caused you to feel as though you were traveling with someone who saw you the way others had. Had he even tried to talk to you before any of this none of this would’ve happened. But now he wanted to know you and to make sure nothing like this ever happened again.
Boromir looked from your direction to the water. “(Y/n), if it wouldn’t be to much… I would like to get to know you.” He stated.
A smile formed on your face as you turned to face him and him to you.
“What do want to know first?” You asked cheerfully.
“Anything you’re comfortable telling.” He replied with a chuckle ready to hear any and everything you had to tell.
Aragorn smiled as he saw the two of you talking, knowing that things had been worked out between the two of you. The rest seemed to notice and felt a bit of change in the atmosphere, now there was no longer silence or distance.
The Fellowship seemed to recover, ready to continue on into Moria.
