The Borrowers. 2011
I am delighted to have stumbled upon this tiny little gem *-*
The Borrowers (2011 film) isn’t anything new, but I found it on my spree to find stuff with Chris Eccleston (did I mention that I miss Nine??????) so here are the reasons why this is now officially my favorite movie and why you should give it a chance too:
Chris Eccleston, obviously.
Stephen Fry!
The idea that there are little people living under your floor boards, borrowing your stuff and food and just trying to survive in a dangerous (and huge) world.
I’m serious - small and cute and just think.... if you are that tiny everything can hurt you.
Cue WHUMP - potential that this movie uses liberally I’d say and it’s a joy to watch
The EMOTION these little people have in spades and display so freely! It pulls you right in from the start.
Also great acting that makes the emotions possible. And a great writing.
Let me tell you about the character development! Yeah, ok, it’s a cute little story based on a children’s book so maybe it’s not the most complicated thing ever but it so doesn’t need to be! It’s really simple: a family unit that cares for each other. They are all consistent. They all grow as the story progresses.
Tiny people suffer so prettily. And they really, really care about each other it’s so sweet.
Cinematography is sooooooo pretty! They make such a great use of the concept to get the light and angles of seemingly simple things to make a beautiful scenery.
Can I have a tiny Ninth Doctor? I would take good care of him, I’d give him treats and comfy little pillow forts and stuff.
I started watching it with fits of laughter because the setup was absurd but very quickly I forgot about the setup or the simplicity of it all - it just pulled me in.
TLDR: If you miss the Ninth Doctor, like/ adore Stephen Fry and / or look for a sweet and heartwarming story - this is the thing for you!
Request: are there any borrowers!who fics or any other fanworks? Anything??
Bonus recommendation: specifically for rumbelle fans, the fanfic that introduced me to the borrowers idea: Catch and Release by villainsarebetter (darkling59)
