meanwhile, the orville actually explored patriarchy taken to its extreme, coercive sex assignment, forced transition, "corrective" surgery on infants, and childhood dysphoria and the healing that consensual transition can bring.
Bortus and Topa's (and Klyden, fuck Klyden) entire arc may be heavy handed, but it speaks directly to so many different experiences. Whereas Dax does not translate literally, Topa does.
