Nishinoya Yuu

Don’t you let this boy see you being down on yourself for the things you enjoy!

“You don’t need to be embarrassed! When you get all passionate and excited, it’s super hot!”

He encourages you a lot to be more proud of the things that make you happy, sometimes going so far as to scold you when he catches you clamming up about your interests.

Even if he has no idea what you’re talking about he’ll still listen closely and stare at you with moony eyes while you go on about your passions. He could listen to you talk for hours.

Akaashi Keiji

A little more subtle than Nishinoya, Akaashi doesn’t want to directly call you out for deflecting and risk making you more embarrassed than you already seem.

“Hm? Don’t stop, I’m still listening.”

He’ll interject with a question or two in order to prompt you to keep talking, even setting down whatever he’s reading or working on to focus on you more intently.

If you apologize for rambling on he’ll shake his head and give you a wonderfully fond little smile.

“You never have to apologize, I enjoy listening to you speak. There’s no shame in having things you’re passionate about, even if they may seem silly to you.”

🥺👉👈 I have a big fat Bokuto phase now so maybe a short drabble of Bokuto planning a cute sweet surprise for a close friend. U know it. 🧡🧡🧡 ILY!

(Yes, of course! I looooooooove Bokuto so much!)

You’d been talking for months about adopting a cat. Telling Bokuto about your trips to cat cafes and adoption centers, how all of the cats were just so damn cute but none of them seemed to click with you. He’d seen how you’d sulked when you came back from your last trip to the shelter with scratches all over your arms from a cat you’d hoped had taken a liking to you. You seemed to be losing hope, and Bokuto couldn’t have that.

“Whatcha buying, Bo?” You’d ran into him at the supermarket one Saturday afternoon while on a snack run, only to see his familiar spiky locks over one of the short shelves. Bokuto yelped, loud, and swept whatever was on the shelf in front of him into his basket.

“Hey good to see ya sorry I’m in a rush talk to you later byeeeeee!” Before you’d even processed the waterfall of words coming out of his mouth Bokuto had already disappeared into the store in a whirlwind.

“Huh.”

“Hey, Akaashi? Is Bokuto avoiding me?”

You saw Akaashi hesitate, just the tiniest bit, before responding.

“Not that I know of.”

Bullshit.

You gave Akaashi a long stare as he proceeded to stuff the rest of his textbooks into his bag, but he refused to break under your gaze.

“... Fine.” You muttered, swinging your bag over your shoulder. “Tell him to stop running around like an idiot and just talk to me if there’s a problem. We’re friends, right?”

You didn’t give Akaashi enough time to scrape together a response before you were leaving the school. Later that evening, your homework finished, you thought back on Bokuto’s strange behavior the past few days. Did you really do something wrong? Sure, Bokuto could be a little emotional at times, but you couldn’t think of anything you’d done that would’ve upset him this much.

Ding-dong!

“Coming!” You rolled off the couch in a huff, shuffling to the door and pulling it open. “... Bokuto?”

“Hey hey hey!” He chirped, a large cardboard box in his hands and plastic bags hanging off of both his arms. “You busy?”

“N-No. Come on in.” You stepped aside to let him enter, hesitating for barely a moment before your curiosity got the better of you. “Aren’t you mad at me?”

“What? No! Why would I be?”

“I just, you were avoiding me a lot, and I thought maybe you were upset with me or something.”

He froze, scratching at the back of his head with a sheepish grin. “Ah. Sorry! I just didn’t wanna spoil the surprise. I was gonna wait a bit longer until she had gotten more comfortable, but Akaashi said you had a bad day today so I brought her over.”

“Her?”

Bokuto set the box on the floor and opened the flaps to reveal a small black cat peering up at you. He reached inside and gave her a scritch behind the ears that prompted a quiet meow.

“This is Kickstand! She’s been living behind the shed in my neighbor’s yard.”

“Her name is... Kickstand?”

“Yeah, look! C’mon, Kicky!” He scooped the cat and set her gently onto your living room carpet. Only once she was out of the shadow of the box could you see that Kickstand was missing one of her back legs. She sniffed around a bit before seating herself next to you, her good back leg sticking out all akimbo to help her keep her balance.

“See? She’s got a kickstand! C’mon, she’s real sweet.~ You can give her a scritchy-scratch!”

You reached out slowly, carefully, running a finger over one of her ears. It twitched beneath your touch, and then Kickstand began to purr, leaning her entire head into your open palm. 

“Aww, I knew she’d like you!” Bokuto beamed. “I brought you some of her toys and food and stuff, things I used to lure her out of the yard. And I didn’t know if you had a litterbox but I brought a little plastic bin you can use until you buy a  proper one.”

“Bokuto!” You whined, tears brimming in your eyes.

“WHOA! Do you- Do you not like her? I know she’s missing a leg but she’s still a real good cat and-!” His words trailed off into a breathy wheeze as you trapped him in a hug, squeezing the air out of him.

“She’s perfect. Thank you.”

“Y-Yeah! Yeah, of course! Any time.” Your face was buried in his shoulder, so you weren’t able to see the blush and the huge, goofy grin that overtook Bokuto’s entire face.
