So Skai has been wanting locks for some months now and I finally gave in. I was a little hesitant in the beginning because of all the controversy with children having locks and just how people view locks in general. In my opinion, I think more people aren’t wearing locks because it is a type of hair that is not fully embraced and accepted in its totality. Having hair like this could be a problem for people in the corporate world (for instance) who need to comform to what is thought to be hair that is acceptable. Also locks aren’t exactly fully represented. TV commercials don’t even advertise products for locks because it is not mainstream. So I realized that I would be a walking contradiction if one minute I’m all for self expression and then the next minute I’m caring what people think! Am I making sense? Idk?! Think about it, the one thing any or most people can do to show off their personality is in how they wear their hair. You want an edgy look, you cut your hair short… you want to look classy, you wear a sleek bun! Locks are also an expression and a cultural tradition, so I said “What the hell, why not”. So let me just say, if you see locks and think “dirty”, you’re showing a lack of experience, wisdom and judgment. Locks are only dirty if you don’t take care of them, like ANYONES hair when you don’t wash it. Last thing, if Skai can’t book a job because she has locks, its cool, because I’m not raising my daughter to work underneath someone but instead to build her OWN business!
