Bosstones Ukelin C. 1920s

“The ukelin is a type of bowed zither that aimed to combine the violin with the ukulele. Instruments of this type were first made in the 1920s and the first patent for one was awarded on this day in 1926. Ukelins were often sold by door-to-door salesmen offering costumers payment plans to purchase the instruments. Waning popularity attributed to the difficulty of playing the instruments (compared its advertised ease) made production cease in the 1972.” (Smithsonian Music)
