Fuck Massachusetts
If you live here in MA and you are transgender you are propably aware that we have no anti discrimination laws in place, but we are trying to get that to change, over the past couple months, we lobbied, we wrote letters, we spoke out, we laughed, we cried. Time is running short and congress will go on vacation in less than two weeks (November 19th) so if the Anti Discrimination bill does not get moved along, we will have to wait until 2017 in order to try again.
yet just today I got a funny email.
The state house passed a bill to make “RoadRunner” by The Modern Lovers the state song.
But have yet to announce any workings on this bill to protect us. So i wrote a strongly worded letter to MA House Leonard Mirra (R), MA Senate Bruce Tarr (R)Governor Charlie Baker, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Stan Rosenberg
As a Massachusetts resident, I am URGING you to support an update to our state's non-discrimination laws that would fully protect transgender people from discrimination and bring it to vote THIS YEAR.
Passing this along is so important to the people in MA, to protect the peoples rights that you are Representing. I am highly disappointed that you had the time to pass a bill giving MA a new state song rather than spending your limited time protecting your constitutes.
Was choosing a new state song more important than our civil rights?! I have never been more disappointed and upset at the lawmakers decisions before.
When I expressed my disappointment to my friends and family they all said the same thing; "What else do you expect from the government?" "They don't care about us." "I am not surprised." Is this what you want your constitutes to think of you? That YOU do not care about protecting the people you are representing and instead wasting your time on passing a bill for a new state song. That is unbelievably disgusting and every one of you should all be ashamed.
From this point on I wish for all of you to continue to look at the bill, remember our testimonies, remember our stories, remember the pain we feel every single day. Remember the constant fear we feel every single day. You refusing, stalling, waiting, is only making our fears worse. We cannot spend any more time feeling afraid, feeling pain, and suffering from discrimination, hate, intolerance, and bigotry. You refusing to pass this bill along, or stall it will only prove to us that you do not care about protecting those who have suffered from discrimination.
Here are some statistics for you given by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention:
Discrimination, victimization, or violence at school, at work, and when accessing health care • Harassed or bullied at school (any level): 50-54% • Experienced discrimination or harassment at work: 50-59% • Doctor or health care provider refused to treat them: 60% • Suffered physical or sexual violence: — At work: 64-65% — At school (any level): 63-78% — Discrimination, victimization, or violence by law enforcement • Disrespected or harassed by law enforcement officers: 57-61%

Do you think it is ok that the numbers are this high? Are you horrified at the 41% of Transgender youth who attempt suicide before the age of 20?
Yet you are LETTING this happen by wasting time and stalling. You are allowing discrimination, You allowing discrimination will teach CHILDREN that it is ok to discriminate. Causing more problems and more hate and intolerance in this world. You are telling parents that you do not care if their child gets kicked out of a restaurant, or cannot get medical treatment, or is harassed and bullied every single day.
I URGE you to pass this bill along. You have less than 2 weeks left, If you have not done so, then Discrimination against transgender people (like myself) WILL BE LEGAL.
If you havn't already, please watch this short information video about the bill.
