The Leucistic squirrel who lives in the #PublicGarden is extremely adorable. I see him rather frequently, but I finally got a good photo with my real camera. Leucism in animals is rather unusual. Unlike albinism it doesn't always turn the whole animal white. Leucism also doesn't turn the animals eyes pink/red. Anyway, this squirrel is awesome and really beautiful. Me and her, we go way back. We’re usually overlooked when the air is too brittle to shuffle the gravel, and when the mist clogs down whispering the royalty of water as the conquered of Hayes Park. It is posted in bulletins on iron lamps and in the clattering bits of online proclamations that we have Friends. We’re not sure, most days, of what you read is true. She stands an awkward angle to her beloved garden. There is no way we can bring cheeks close, ponder eye to eye on the same level. She was just built that way. We don’t mind only being remembered when the tulips balloon or the allium is in style, coveted by Friends. She has her jumprope. I have my bike. We never play, but it feels like we do. Because we’re both foolish, and we’re always grinning. No one makes notice. So we do the same every time. No matter the weather. We’re friends.
