So I made a post a few days ago showing people where they could donate to actually help Gaza. I tagged it with “help Gaza”.
Before this post, I was getting a spam Ask once every few days, sometimes as much as once a day. After that post, I am now getting MULTIPLE per day. These bots TARGET YOU if you talk about helping Gaza.
Let’s look at the three Asks sitting in my inbox, and you’ll be able to clearly see how and why they’re scams.
All three of the usernames are a combination of a name and the word “family”.
Intro line ending in two emojis, all three saying “hello”.
Second line with similar sentiments of “I hope life is treating you well”, ending with a single emoji, the same one in two of them.
Third line asking for help, all three ending with the praying hands emoji.
Fourth line is almost verbatim identical in two of them, all three have the same sentiment of “if you help, your support brings hope”, and all three end in a flower emoji. The two that are almost identical use the same emoji.
Fifth line says thank you and ends with a bunch more of emoji.
These are bots.
These are copy-pasted pre-generated Asks. They are so blatantly bots when you place three of them side by side. I didn’t cherry pick these, they’re literally in my inbox one after the other.
Stop reblogging these. Stop feeling guilty about ignoring them. Report them as spam, block them, and move on. If you post a lot about Gaza and you’re overwhelmed by how many Asks you’re getting, turn off your Inbox. You are not a bad person. No real person is sending you Asks begging for money.
Go donate to a legitimate organization instead.
