You see these two types of messages?

These are most likely scams/bots

If anyone asks comms, please check their blog first and make sure there’s enough stuff on there to know they’re human. For example: Do they answer asks? How long has their blog been created? Have they interacted before, and if so did they compliment your art/used certain words bots and scammers don’t use?

It’s really important and I want to inform everyone bc I had almost had this happen to me! The second message is extra dangerous, because I’ve only seen it on accounts that got hacked. This was the case for one of my friends, and the only reason I didn’t get hacked/scammed was because it relies on discord (which I don’t have).

Just want people to be safe. Stay wary and careful out there!

SCAM ALERT!!!

There's a bot going around, collecting data from people's blogs and claiming that one of your followers is posting pedophiliac and racist comments online.

If you see this bot, DO NOT ENGAGE WITH IT! Do not send any information about anyone it asks about! Please report it and move on.

Edit: GUYS THIS WASN'T A BOT! I'm very sorry for misleading you, but this is a real person. I only assumed it was a bot because it came from a blank account and I am very used to having blank account bots message me out of nowhere. Again, NOT A BOT!!! Just a misunderstanding that's been cleared up now!!!

Heads up to followers

There's a scambot going around under the name of laumi-narry asking to be mutuals. Instead of the usual scambot tactic of a topless selfie lady or asking for money with a sob story, at first glance they seem like any other fandom blog with modern interests that just wants a new friend:

Nope, 100% bot that just wants your credit card info. Evidence shows up by searching their username. Block and report if this shows up in your inbox! Or block preemptively if you want.

Anyway, times being how they are, it never hurts to remember the rules of the wide wide world of web:

Don't send money to randos

Don't click links or download files in a DM unless you asked for them

If anyone cold calls you, google them!

I am not trusting that one site that people are posting about where the big text is "where to watch (insert show) for free?" or something like that and then in the EDIT: they have the one site that has Neet.Ixuh.xyz cause Ive seen several blogs post the exact same thing and then upon further inspection its like the only thing those blogs have posted, might be bots

Warning - the bots are getting smart. I just blocked a nasty porn-bot / porn account that tried following this sideblog (blocked from both my main and this one) that had an innocent looking drawing of Vash as its avatar. Vash-avatar, so looks like a fandom-account, backsplash of a city-scape, and then I look at the actual blog, and BOOM, greasy dick in and out of someone's mouth! Scroll down to a second post, didn't scroll down too far, could see a guy with his head in a bag naked.... so, the first post wasn't a fluke or a hack. UGH!!!! daniel31120 specifically, but be on the lookout for them, porn / salesbots trying to look legit by following people. They're apparently getting smart enough to target fandoms and to use fandom-characters, and fanart, no less, as avatars. Always check who follows you. (I always do).

Okay uh Tumblr chat, I know we used to have a general rule of thumb that, to detect scams, real commissioners DM you first instead of asking for a DM, but I think we have to be on the lookout in this coming period.

I just received a DM from a "new follower" asking for commissions. They gave a few of my posts a like and then went in my inboxes, but their profile is very obviously a bot. They only have one post made just a couple hours ago, have a normal "first name" on their profile, are spamming likes to other artists in a very short span of time, and followed a bunch of people in that short space too. All in all a very generic scam bot.

Idk if this has been going on before, but I felt to warn you all now to be extra cautious!
