The Sword… To the ancient Romans, gladioli represented strength of character, sincerity, and generosity. Their sword-like shape caused them to be associated with gladiators... I now have a newfound love for them! Graphite and color pencil drawing by Anastasia Traina ~ 2016~
Devina’s Favourite Witchy Items - Part One.
Here is a list as suggested by shipping-the-gods of my main Go to herbs, crystals, colours and items that i use in my practice and a brief explanation of why I use each one.
Botanicals (and other loose parts)
Salt. - This is my absolute favourite thing to use, i use it in everything, honestly there is a saying in my house that goes "Chuck a bit of salt on it, she'll be right!" (Yes, we are very Australian if you can't tell!) I mainly use it because it has strong cleansing properties and protective energies. Whenever i am working a spell or a charm or anything that doesn't involve summoning or communicating or welcoming spirits or entities, then i use salt. Every herbal mix has salt, any candles i burn, i sprinkle on some salt, even if my space if just feeling off, i will keep a bowl of salt around.
Ash. - In my personal practice I use ash to strengthen spells, potions and charms. I find it really handy to just give my working that extra bit of energy that it needs. I usually gather ash from my Nan's fire-pit in her garden, but if i'm in a rush and really need some that i don't already have on hand, i will burn a piece of paper with my intent on it, and collect those ashes. Honestly, if i am in a really, really lazy mood, i may even burn up some newspaper we have lying around and gather the ash from that!
I also use ash and salt ground up together to create black salt!
Rosemary - This is another one of those herbs that i just chuck into everything. One of the best things to know about rosemary, is that if you don't have a particular herb, you can use rosemary instead! To me it has a very strong and potent, yet unique energy, where it can take on the form of any intent you have. It will literally correspond with any need, from love, to enhanced intuition, to protection and cursing. Rosemary works for it all.
Vervain - I adore vervain, it has a very feminine energy in my perspective and is very protective. I also use it in any unconditional love spells and all protection spells or charms that i do.
Jasmine Flowers - I bought a jar of these dried about 6 months ago and have loved working with them. They have a very subtle, and gentle energy, so i use them in love spells, happiness, peace and dream workings. They are like the wispy, gentle mother of herbs.
Black Peppercorns - I use these in a lot of binding, banishing, protection and cursing workings. These emit a very strong 'take no shit' type of energy and i love to have that working for me when doing some form of spell or charm.
Eggshell Powder - This is another one I use like ash - to strengthen spells and charms and workings. I add this to majority of herbal mixes. I also personally associate eggshell powered with fertility, prosperity, and protection (especially of children and babies). I also use eggshell powder to create symbols and sigils, by drawing in the dirt with a stick first and then sprinkling this over the top.
