Fun bird story! I once visited a sea bird rescue sanctuary during feeding time, where the volunteers explained to us the numerous not-caged egrets and great blue herons hanging around were former residents who remembered the nice humans and their food wheelbarrow, and didn’t get why said humans were suddenly shooing them away from sticking their entire faces in it. Per one of them: “They’re friendly, although once one of them landed on me.” Needless to say, I visited more than once.
I don’t know what it would be like to be landed on by a great blue heron but I imagine it would be like someone throwing a pillowcase full of tie rods at you unexpectedly
