While I have long asserted that Vaati is neither an incarnation nor heir of the spirit of Demise, his form as the Wind Mage would have not been possible. When Demise was defeated, his minions did not automatically vanish from that fact. Instead, they retreated, regrouped, and eventually returned to put the newly formed Kingdom of Hyrule into its first war; the War of the Bound Chest, as it would become to be known as the army of evil was sealed in the aforementioned chest. After generations of being sealed, the evil entities eventually turned back into energy of Demise from which they were originally born. Upon opening this chest, Vaati willingly absorbed much of the energy into himself, becoming a powerful focus of evil energy and inadvertently turning himself into a minion of Demise.
