So, as you probably have noticed, there’s no highlighted brand, which means no random item. What’s going on? Well, over on IG, colormecourtney and thedisneybound are organizing an event: Bound to Watch. Now, as I don’t show pictures of me online (except to a select few), I decided to create fashion sets.
Today’s team is “Princess/Prince.” As you have probably guess, I went for none other than Belle, my favourite Disney princess. The movie, the original one, is great, the songs by Ashman and Menken are amazing, and the score is enchanting. While I did enjoy the live-action, I do have a bit of a beef with it, but more on that later.
So, I opted to get my inspiration from her ball outfit, hence the yellow dress and the golden shoes. The earrings look like the rose under its glass dome, and that’s because it is. These earrings are from a special Disney collab witha Korean jewelry brand, and they are from the Beauty and the Beast collection.
The clutch represent the well-known French book “Le petit prince”, which I chose because it is a French book and Belle is French. Which brings us to the one little thing that bugs me in the live-action: Belle has read Romeo and Juliet in the song “Belle”. Now, I did some research, and it seems the first major translation of Shakespeare’s play into French were in the mid to late 19th century. Thanks to the whole plague subplot and the plague masks that we see in the movie, we can assume it takes place in the 17th or 18th century, which is when these masks were mostly used. So it doesn’t make any sense for Belle to read Shakespeare. On the other hand, in the animated version, Belle reads a fairy tale, which makes perfect sense for that time as they were not intended for children, but were in fact discussed in literary salons. So, if the research had been done properly, Belle would still be reading a fairy tale book in the live-action. (Now, if anyone says that she reads Romeo and Juliet in “Human Again,” I would like to point out that the odds of a prince having a translated copy commissioned wouldn’t be odd. You have all seen the size of his library. Clearly he has some foreign books in there.) Anyway, all this to say I gave this outfit a clutch representing a French book to right some wrongs.
The hair tie is a reference to the Beast of the story, thanks to the animal print.

The last day of the #boundtowatch challenge and it has to be about our fav #mickeymouse! This may have been taken way before #quarantinelife was a thing, but i love it all the same.
