Princess Ototachibanahime ~A tragic heroine who threw herself in her lover's place to calm the sea
After narrowly escaping capture[See: Ref], Yamato Takeru and his party crossed the Hakone coast from Sagami and attempted to cross to Bosshu (now Chiba Prefecture). The sea god of Hashirimizu ( now Yokosuka City) caused the waves to rise and Yamato Takeru's ship was tossed about like a leaf.
Princess Ototachibana said, "Let me go into the sea in the place of the prince. I hope he will be able to escape this disaster and carry out his mission well,” and entered the water.
Later, they land safely in Kisarazu. However, Yamato Takeru wandered for many days along the coast, looking for the shadow of his beloved wife. At this time, Yamato Takeru's sentiment, " Kimisarazu" ("You will not leave"), became the name of the place Kisarazu.
On his way back from the expedition, he visited the place again and murmured "Azuma haya (My dear wife)", which is how the place came to be known as Azuma (East).
Tachibana Shrine in Honno, Mobara is located on the site of the mausoleum where Yamato Takeru buried a comb that washed up shore on the seventh day after he began searching for his wife's remains.
Similarly, Sodegaura, Sodegahama, and Koyurugi, all of which are located along Tokyo Bay, are believed to be the place where the Princess' belt or sleeves washed ashore.
