I would just like to point out that my cat is badasser than your cat, probably.
Anyway, if my roommate or I is awake and hears the little bandits out on the stairs, we go out and walk down towards them til they take off.
But if we don't hear, she mostly can do it herself (if she doesn't care or feels overwhelmed, she can jump over to our balcony/porch) - and I know because a few times, like just now, I open the door and she is literally in the middle of claws-out batting them away from her position of higher ground.
Never found a scratch on her, *and* she's obvs not really hurting them, because they keep coming back, which makes me so effing proud of my little box-kitty.
