Meat tenderizer?????????

Okay so for context, I am EXTREMELY allergic to bug bites. I get really itchy and swell up, and they can last over a week after I'm bitten. It's bad but bugs love me for my tasty blood.

At sleep-away summer camp, my friend who had similar reactions to bites and I had gotten really really bitten up, specifically on our backs, and were miserable. So our counselor sent us to the nurses cabin to see if they could help us.

We get there and my memory isn't that clear here, but I think they were out of aloe or whatever? so they don't really know what to do but our bites are bad enough that they feel they should do Something.

Then one nurse says "oh, I read something about putting meat tenderizer on bug bites and it making them not itch :)" and the other nurses, out of ideas, decide to do that.

So the nurses put meat tenderizer in water, and then put it ON OUR BUG BITES.

Now, technically the nurse was right. Our bug bites DID stop itching- Because they started burning.

You see, meat tenderizer is made for one thing: tenderizing meat. And what is the flesh of an 11 year old but untenderized meat?

My friend and I started screaming and crying and the nurses had to get cups of water to wash off the meat tenderizer. They sent us back to our cabins and we just kinda went to bed with stinging backs. The bug bites DID stop itching for a bit, but by the next day they itched again.

We did not go back to the nurses office for our bug bites.
