THE PARTY, by Boxer Kid, Akio Beats
Busted or surprise me for Boxer. C:
Zyva rounded the corner of the patrol, expecting another hallway full of nothing. Though there wasn’t an immediate threat looming in the darkness, it didn’t stop any of the survivors from organizing a night watch. It wasn’t fear of what was haunting the corridors, but fear of what could be.
A clattering sound froze Zyva in her tracks. She raised her hand to Mechta. Did you hear something? She asked.
I did. He replied. Zyva took in a slow breath.
"Whoever you are, come out here."
Nothing.
“Now.” Her voice was steely, now. Being around people instead of Pokemon, as of late, had forced Zyva to work harder on her inflection. She had ‘deadly serious’ down pat so far.
From out of the shadow of a doorway sidled a sheepishly grinning Boxer Kid.
"Dammit, Boxer." Zyva’s posture instantly relaxed as she slapped her forehead. Mechta floated over to the kid, lingering about her shoulders and prodding her head with his nose.
"What are you doing out here? You’re not on guard duty." Boxer’s grin lost all sheepishness.
"So what? I can’t lend a hand to my friends? I figured you could need some help. You’re not even a Guardian…" She gave Mechta a little scratch on the head. Zyva shifted, uncomfortable, crossing her arms.
"I’m more than capable of taking care of myself." The older woman glowered at the kid, who was doing her best to avoid any confrontation. "Guardian or not."
"But I just-" Boxer was interrupted by Mechta’s pushing her back with his head, directing her toward camp where all the other survivors lay sleeping.
"Hush." Zyva would hear none of it. "We have scheduled watch shifts for a reason. You can’t decide to go off on your own on a whim." Boxer’s face scrunched up a little in a frown.
"I’m not a little kid-“
"You most certainly are." Zyva insisted. With a light push on the shoulder, Zyva pointed back at camp. "Now go and get some sleep." Mechta let out a little puff of purple smoke that smelled like chamomile as punctuation. Boxer crossed her arms and watched Zyva return down the corridor to her route, huffing in annoyance, but feeling sort of sleepy anyway.
She really isn’t a child, you know.
Quiet, Mechta.
