Plant of the Day
Saturday 21 April 2018
The Writtle University College landscape architecture and garden design students visited Provender Nurseries, Kent, UK, to see how plants are sourced, transported and sold for the landscape professions. The breeding of new cultivars of Ilex crenata cultivars continues in the search to produce a substitute for Buxus sempervirens (box) which is suffering from several pest and disease issues. There were a range of specimens of Ilex crenata ‘Maxima’ (box-leaved holly, Japanese holly) as clipped forms and this cultivar seemed to be performing extremely well. Thank you to our friends at Provender for a great visit.
