Captain Marvel had been left on monitor duty on Saturday night. Again. He couldn't really complain, since he'd started to try going back to school his availability for JL duties had been limited a little bit on weekdays. Not that he wouldn't cut school to help out if he were called, but the JL generally tried to be pretty accommodating when it came to civilian identity stuff, even if they didn't know his. And it's not like he usually had any weekend plans as Billy, anyway. Besides, the Watchtower had better food than the stuff he could usually scrounge up himself on the weekends.
Admittedly he hadn't been paying much attention to the monitors. Most of the JL were on Earth in their respective cities doing whatever it was they usually did on Saturday nights, and though it may be irresponsible, Marvel figured they could handle things as usual.
This is how Marvel justified taking a short break to grab a snack from the cafeteria, empty save for Hal, who had microwaved a burrito and left. This is also how Marvel let his short break turn into a long break while he read through a couple of the comic books Freddy had leant him. This long break is why Marvel had completely missed the entire earth being engulfed in supernatural plants.
Staring out the large window in the monitor room at the big green ball that had been his planet, Captain Marvel dropped the blueberry muffin he had brought from the cafeteria.
"Oops."
In light of the whole "eating ectoplasm" thing,

He felt the soft click of a button under his palm and he was filled with a fast, cold dread that barely had time to drop his heart into his stomach before it was replaced with pain. He was surrounded by light, filled with it, consumed by it, and it burned through him with so much heat it felt cold.
He smelled burning, burning hair, burning meat, burning bones, burning plastic, cut with ozone, stinging his nose, so acidic and astringent his lungs locked up.
He tasted blood and bile burning on his tongue, the cold light ripping through his nose and throat like he was drowning.
He heard a shrill, piercing wail, echoing with a tinny quality off the walls of the portal, filling his head as it tore through his throat. It merged with the pain filling his whole self and it was all he heard, an eternity of screams and pain.
Danny stared into the swirling green light coming from the portal, mesmerizing in its stillness. When he looked into that cold light he felt a shiver linger, like it wanted to run down his spine, but too hesitant. Despite the eerieness of it, he felt a strange sort of eagerness beating in his chest, an alien comfort, a longing sense of familiarity.
Danny belonged to the portal, and the portal belonged to him.
Holiday Truce 2022 gift to @kostektyw! Idk if this was what you were expecting with the prompt "Portal" but I think Danny has some complex feelings about it.
Higher res still under the cut
How do you like your ectoplasm?
In my Danny Phantom Fallout AU, Cujo is a frightening mutant dog, who, when upset, transforms into a large and terrifying monster with claws that rival a deathclaw's, and long, razor sharp teeth.
Most people, of course, find even his smaller form to be quite a ghoulish demon-looking monster, but Danny finds him to be quite adorable. Cujo happily accepts the pets despite the dubiousness of working nerve endings in his dry decaying flesh.
He joins Danny sometimes as he explores the wasteland, but seeing as he gets a pretty terrible reaction from most people, Danny tries to keep him out of populated areas.
Sam, Tucker, and Jazz are rather wary of Cujo at first, but after a while come to find him rather endearing, if not as adorable as Danny seems to think.
