Bonus - A brief flurry of kicks where stunt double, Brad Allan, had to step in for Smoorenburg. Notice the size difference:
Well, this is good news. The guy responsible for the action in this video has been hired as the stunt coordinator on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The guy’s name is Brad Allan and he was the first non-Asian member of the Jackie Chan Stunt team.

Jackie Chan is known for his outtakes but what happens when he gets pissed the fuck off while filming? Here he is shooting Who Am I? where he squares of against talented kicker, Ron Smoorenburg. The problem? Smoorenburg can’t follow directions. When Jackie choreographs a fight, everything is specific. The timing, the beats, the positioning. This guy just can’t stop moving forward and almost taking Jackie’s head off. To Jackie’s credit though, he is patient. He gives him, what, six takes? By the last one you can tell he’s done.
Then Brad Allen steps in and nails it perfectly right away. Allan was, originally, the only non-Chinese member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team.
I wish more clips like this existed. A peek behind the curtain on Jackie’s sets. While he’s obviously a friendly guy, I just don’t think he has time for errors. Especially when he’s only given a specific window of time to get a fight scene in the can.
Jackie Chan getting pissed off and walking off because his co-star can’t follow the fight choreography he’s been given.
Jackie explains that Ron Smoorenburg (the co-star in this scene) kept moving forward, towards Jackie, instead of performing his moves on the spot. This pushed Jackie back and ultimately out of frame.
Eventually, due to Ron not being able to pull off the requested moves, they had to bring a double in: long time Jackie Chan Stunt Team member, Brad Allan.
