Shots. Lots of Shots. (aka What is a shot list? What is a storyboard?)
What am I doing as a director at this moment? Shots. Lots of shots. No, I don't mean the Little John song, I'm nailing down our shot list as we go into production.
The challenge is to make our time as efficient as possible. As you can see from my scribbling, we have a lot of shots and little time (what production ever has enough time?). I'm also storyboarding the shots in visual form to better share with the team exactly what the vision is. You'll have to pardon the crude mock ups, my artistic creativity is through a camera, not with a pencil. But all of these elements will be put into motion as we roll camera in... 7 days!
